Annual Meeting & Exposition of the Controlled Release Society

Collaborate, Connect, Innovate – The dynamic motto of the Controlled Release Society (CRS) characterised this year’s Annual Meeting & Exposition. The event took place in Boston, USA from July 16-19, 2017 and is a highlight in the conference calendar for delivery scientists as it covers new technologies and inspiring research in the rapidly advancing field.

The CRS conference featured several contributions from B-SMART partners. Project coordinator Prof. Raymond Schiffelers (UMCU) was moderator of the “Natural Structures as Drug Carriers Symposium” and presenter for the topic “Exosomes versus Liposomes” (see video announcement here). In addition, Sven Even Borgos from B-SMART partner SINTEF presented a poster titled “The European Nanomedicine Characterisation Laboratory – helping nanomedicines to the clinic”. The poster "PEG-PGA Enveloped Octaarginine-Peptide Nanocomplexes: a novel protein-based drug delivery strategy to overcome extracellular and cellular barriers" was represented by Eleni Samaridou from B-SMART partner USC.

As current CRS President during the event, Ruth Schmid from SINTEF has been actively engaged with official representation duties. The 2017 CRS Annual Meeting also marks a change in the Board of Directors. CRS member and B-SMART partner Prof. María José Alonso from USC has recently been appointed as President elect for 2017-2018. She will begin her term in office at the close of the 2017 Annual Meeting.

CRS is a community for experts dedicated to the delivery of actives, including delivery scientists, engineers, clinicians, and technical professionals. CRS members are creating the future of delivery science and technology through fundamental delivery research, development, regulatory science, and clinical translation.
